O evento mudou para Charleston em 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">De <strong>1973 a 2015<\/strong>, o patrocinador principal foi a revista <em>Family Circle<\/em>, fato que tornou a revista o patrocinador mais antigo no t\u00eanis profissional. A montadora chinesa Geely, que possui uma f\u00e1brica de autom\u00f3veis no condado de Berkeley, onde \u00e9 realizado o evento, assumiu o patroc\u00ednio em 2016 com sua marca <em>Volvo Cars<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">De <strong>1990 a 2008<\/strong>, o torneio foi classificado como um evento <em>WTA Tier I<\/em>. Em 2009, foi rebaixado para um torneio <a href=\"\/wp\/wta-premier\">WTA Premier<\/a>.
